Why 1 July goes wrong in generic payroll
In most platforms a rate rise is a manual job: edit the pay templates one classification at a time, or export to a spreadsheet, change the numbers and reimport. Then do the allowances. Then do it again for the second agreement. All of it under a deadline, in the same week the pay run is due.
Miss one classification and you underpay every worker in it until someone notices — then you owe back-pay.

What happens on the effective date
Rates update in the engine automatically. Hours worked before the date stay on the old rate, hours after it use the new one, and the before-and-after is visible in the audit trail so you can show exactly what changed and why.

Allowances
What about allowances that step annually?
Site allowances and multi-storey bands step too, usually on the same dates as the wage increases. They are handled the same way: loaded with effective dates, applied on the day, recorded in the run.
Rate increase questions
Can you load an agreement with three annual increases today?
Yes. All of it, once. Each increase sits in the schedule with its effective date and switches on by itself.
What if Fair Work approves a variation?
We update the schedule. Maintenance is included, so there is no change request and no quote.
Do I have to touch anything on the day?
No. Run the pay run as normal and the new rates are already in it.
