Who each one is for
Different tools, built for different environments
Both products are good at what they were designed for. The question is which environment you actually run payroll in.
Simpro with SyncEzy
Service and maintenance trades on Simpro
- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, security and maintenance businesses already committed to Simpro.
- Quoting, scheduling, job costing and invoicing running through the one job management system.
- Technicians logging hours against jobs and cost centres, which Simpro does genuinely well.
- Businesses where the hours are already in Simpro and the only missing step is getting them into payroll.
Project Payroll CrewTime
Builders whose pay rules come from an agreement
- Commercial builders and subcontractors paying under an enterprise agreement sitting on top of the award.
- Site allowance by project value band, multi-storey rates by floor, RDO accrual and banking.
- Crews who split a day across jobs and cost codes, captured and approved on site in CrewTime.
- One vendor and one bill, so a wrong pay line on a Monday morning has one owner.
Compared
Simpro with SyncEzy and Project Payroll CrewTime, capability by capability
Shape of the stack
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Three vendors: the job management system, the integration layer, and the payroll engine. Three subscriptions, three renewal dates and three support queues
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- One vendor, one bill, one support queue, running on Employment Hero Payroll as the engine
Who owns a wrong pay line
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- You work out whether the hours, the sync or the pay configuration caused it before anyone can fix it
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- We do. Capture, interpretation and the pay run are the same chain
Primary market
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Simpro's market is service and maintenance trades, and its case studies reflect that: refrigeration, security systems and similar
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- Commercial construction: agreement covered crews, site allowances, RDO banking and multi-storey rates
Integration pricing
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- SyncEzy does not publish pricing. Their pricing page asks you to register an account to see prices, and their FAQ explains that fixed pricing on integrations is difficult because different sized companies have different requirements and support levels
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- $15 per employee per month, published, with the payroll engine, the agreement build and CrewTime included
Enterprise agreement build
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Pay rules are configured in payroll by you or your adviser
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- We read your agreement clause by clause, build it into the engine, test it against synthetic pay runs and maintain it when rates move
Site allowances and construction specifics
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Hours and cost centres come across. Site allowance by project value band, multi-storey by floor, inclement weather, picnic day, fares and travel are not part of that flow
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- Priced by the rules engine from the job, the floor and the condition flags the crew raised
Capture on site
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Technicians log time in Simpro against jobs, which suits a scheduled service call
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- CrewTime punch, offline first, shed kiosk, photo timesheet capture and foreman approval on site
RCTI for labour hire
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Not part of that flow
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- Labour hire worker type with recipient created tax invoices generated from captured hours
Site diary and client docket sign-off
- Simpro with SyncEzy
- Usually a fourth product
- Project Payroll CrewTime
- Equipment, works, weather, photos and client sign-off on the same record as the hours, with a docket PDF per job per day
To be generous about it: if a business already runs Simpro and it runs their whole operation, buying that integration is a sensible thing to do, and we would tell them so. SyncEzy have been a Simpro partner since 2016, list 25 plus Simpro integrations, are SOC 2 Type 2 certified and operate across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US, and they have been an Employment Hero Payroll partner since it was KeyPay. They do good work. Our pitch is narrower: builders whose pay rules come from an enterprise agreement, where the interpretation is the hard part and it belongs in the same system as the capture.
Where we are different
What construction native actually means
One vendor, not three
Every additional vendor in the chain adds a renewal, a support queue and a boundary where responsibility can be handed sideways. One system means one owner for the number on the payslip.
The engine is the same calibre
We run on Employment Hero Payroll as an Employment Hero reseller, so this is not an argument about the pay engine. It is an argument about how many systems sit between the foreman's approval and that engine.
Your agreement, built and verified
Moving hours into payroll is the easy half. The hard half is whether the site allowance, the multi-storey step, the RDO accrual and the fares are right. We read the agreement and build those rules for you.
Synced, not uploaded
There is no integration layer to own because there is no gap to bridge. A clock on becomes a pay line with a cost code, in the one system.
More on the capture side in CrewTime, the pay rules in the EBA knowledge hub and the numbers on pricing.
Simpro with SyncEzy comparison questions
Is the Simpro to payroll integration a bad buy?
No. If Simpro already runs your quoting, scheduling and invoicing, and your hours are already in it, buying a well built integration is a reasonable decision and SyncEzy build good ones. The question is whether your pay rules come from an enterprise agreement, because that is where a jobs system plus a sync leaves work on your desk.
Are you comparing yourself against Employment Hero Payroll?
No. Employment Hero Payroll is our engine and we are an Employment Hero reseller. This comparison is about the number of vendors in the chain and where the agreement interpretation sits, not about the payroll engine.
What does the integration cost?
SyncEzy does not publish pricing. Their pricing page asks you to register an account to see prices, and their FAQ notes that fixed integration pricing is difficult because requirements and support levels differ by company size. That is a fact about the buying process, not a criticism.
We run Simpro for job management. Can we still use Project Payroll?
Yes. Plenty of businesses keep a job management system for quoting and invoicing while pay is captured and run with us. What you avoid is depending on a sync to get the pay right.
What does Project Payroll cost?
Pricing is published on our pricing page, per employee per month, plus a one off setup fee per enterprise agreement we read and build.
