Aussie Time Sheets vs Project Payroll CrewTime for construction

Aussie Time Sheets is an established Australian time and attendance specialist, twelve years in market, publicly stating 10,000 plus customers and around 120,000 to 150,000 employees tracked. Their model is a clock on a wall in a fixed workplace, and they are good at it. Construction is six active jobs, crews that move mid-day, and pay rules that come from an enterprise agreement, which is what CrewTime and Project Payroll are built around.

Who each one is for

Different tools, built for different environments

Both products are good at what they were designed for. The question is which environment you actually run payroll in.

Aussie Time Sheets

One workplace, one entry point

  • A single site, or a small number of fixed sites, where everyone starts and finishes in the same place.
  • A wall-mounted clock at a factory door, a workshop bench or a depot gate.
  • Businesses that want biometric identity verification at a fixed entry point.
  • Teams whose payroll already runs in one of the 70 plus payroll and HR systems PaySync feeds, including Employment Hero.

Project Payroll CrewTime

Multiple sites and moving crews

  • Crews who split a day across jobs and cost codes, with no fixed shed to walk past.
  • Builders paying under an enterprise agreement sitting on top of the award.
  • Site allowances driven by job, location, project value band and condition flags.
  • Businesses who want capture and the pay run in one chain, with no export step.

We will say the cheap part out loud: as a time and attendance layer their pricing is hard to beat, and at 40 employees Gold works out under $4 per employee per month. The point is what that buys. It is the capture layer, plus hardware capex, and payroll remains a separate product with a separate bill and a reconciliation in between. Competitor figures are Aussie Time Sheets' published list price as at August 2026, AUD excluding GST, and may have changed.

Where we are different

What construction native actually means

  • The site is the terminal

A terminal works when the workplace does not move. Construction moves, sometimes twice in a day, so capture has to travel with the crew and still know which job and cost code the hours belong to.

  • Your agreement, built and verified

Award rules configured on the capture side still leave the pay calculation, and the interpretation risk, with you and your payroll product. We read your agreement clause by clause, build it in the engine, and test it against synthetic pay runs before go live.

  • One vendor, one bill

Software plus hardware plus a payroll product is two vendors, a capex line and a reconciliation. One system removes the reconciliation entirely.

  • Australian construction obligations

Cbus and Incolink, redundancy fund contributions, RDO calendars, fares and travel, LAFHA and payday super are core, not custom fields added to a time clock.

Aussie Time Sheets comparison questions

Is Aussie Time Sheets a bad product?

No. They are a long standing Australian specialist with a large customer base, and for a factory, workshop or depot with a fixed entry point they are a sensible and inexpensive choice. Their own published industry list does not include construction, which tells you plainly what they were designed for.

Their subscription looks cheaper than yours. Is it?

On the time and attendance line alone, yes. At 40 employees their Gold plan lists at $150 a month, which is under $4 per employee. That figure covers capture only. Add the hardware, then add a payroll product per employee per month, then add the time someone spends reconciling the two. Our $15 includes the payroll engine, the agreement build and CrewTime.

Do we need to buy hardware with Project Payroll?

No. Crews clock on with the phones they already carry, and an optional shed tablet runs kiosk mode for flat batteries and workers without a phone. There is no terminal to buy or mount.

Can we keep our time clocks and use Project Payroll for pay?

You can, and hours can be brought in from other capture systems. You would still carry a hand off between two systems, which is the thing CrewTime removes.

What does Project Payroll cost?

Pricing is published on our pricing page, per employee per month, plus a one off setup fee per enterprise agreement we read and build.
